Following are some of the comments
about our 50th Mayday Weekend . . .

I would like to say Thank You for the tremendous amount of time and effort that all of the members of the 50th May Day Planning Committee put into planning last weekend !

I attended all of the functions and thoroughly enjoyed every one. Everyone I spoke to had great praise for all events as well.

You should be proud of yourselves. It was truly a Lavington Community event !!

Thank You !

The weekend was something special. It gave us an opportunity to visit with people we have not seen for 30 or more years in some cases. The organization was excellent too. Everything happened like you people do this all the time. I would like to see an "Anniversary Mayday" again - maybe every 10 years or so.

Thanks a lot. I must still get my pictures developed. If I have any I think are worth sending to you, we will attempt to scan them and send them along.

My sister, Ev Kirk, just called me and told me to check out your website. It is awesome. The pictures are excellent and I look forward to seeing more of them.

Thanks Joan,

I just (2 minutes ago) sent you a message. Your sis was one one the forces behind all that happened and we all had fun getting it going.
Personally I am astounded at the warmth of this community. I am living in the Drage/Stein residence and Charlene (the 1st May Queen) came by and had a tour of her childhood home. Fanatasic experience.
Take care and thanks again for the encouraging words.

Hi there! I just browsed on to see the pictures of the reunion, and I saw that my name was incorrect! I was first princess in 1990/91 (I believe that is the right dates, if not, a year later, the queen was Melanie Marshall) and my name is Angel Nordmarken. You have listed me as Angle Hutchinson. *laugh*

Thanks so much, and I look forward to seeing more of the pictures and stories from the event :)

Angel.

May Day unites residents

A half century of memories came floodingback to Lavington residents last weekend as the community celebrated a 50 year homecoming.

"We had whole families that came back home. People were here from as far away as San Francisco, Toronto and throughout B.C. and Alberta" said Lavington May Day and Homecoming Committee representative Ev Reade.

May Day royalty from the past 50 years were on hand to take part in the weekend's festivities, which included a parade, pancake breakfast, entertainment, and a Saturday night dance.

Reade said it's hard to get an accurate estimate on how many hundreds of people turned out for the celebrations, but added the pancake breakfast fed 400 hungry mouths.

"It was beyond our expectations."

She said the homecoming was held as a way to help bring the community together.

"It's a way to show people who lived here in the past how Lavington has grown, but in many respects, has stayed the same. There is still a great sense of community involvement that you see in many small towns. And there is just that feeling of camaraderie that is there."

May Day fun in Lavington

Dears Sirs:

Re: 50th May Day and Homecoming held at Lavington over the long weekend.

I was privilegred to be able to attend these celebrations and must say it was a grand affair.

Congratulations to the committees who worked so hard to make the event it was. Good community effort.

Thanks again for the good time.

The Lavington Homecoming was even better than I had expected ! It was so nice to be back where I grew up and see that it is still a great place to raise a family. I lived on Park Lane from 1951 - 1960 and I wouldn't trade those memories for anything. We swam in the irrigation ditch up on the hillside , waded and swam in the creek , had hayrides (sometimes with a tractor), rode bikes everywhere , and had many happy times at the Community Hall too!!

Thanks to everyone who helped make the event special in every way . To those of us who just had to appear for the goodtimes it all appeared to have been very well organized , although I'm that just like any other big undertaking there were a few glitches but none of them were noticed by people who were so glad to be part of an event that is only going to happen once in a lifetime !!

Thanks for the weather , the parade , the food , the tickets for last minute arrivals , the Maypole Dancers , the guest book , the outside entertainment , the smell of lilacs , the pancakes , the photo albums , the pictures , time with old friends , and last but not least a chance to see Lavinton really at it's best .

Thanks For The Memories !! I wish I'd taken more pictures to bring back to Prince Rupert.....it was hard to talk and take pictures too !

Thanks again !

Hats off to the committee that did a splendid job with the recent May Day 50th aniversary weekend. Lavington really is a great community. It would be nice to see an annual event take place such as a dance as well as entertainment and games in the park and of course the pancake breakfast. Count us in as volunteers if there is any interest out there to take this on.
