Community Garage Sale

Pass along some of those unused articles and make a few dollars in the process. All participants will have balloons flying in front of their homes. Come-on out and visit the community and have lunch at the Firehall. Organized by the Community Association.

Watch for pre-registration of this event in the beginning of April.

May Day

May Day is currently celebrated as a festival for children marking the reappearance of flowers during the spring. It is traditionally greeted with joyous dancing around a garland pole, called the maypole, from which hang streamers held by dancers.
Included in the festivities in Lavington, is the crowning of the May Day Royalty and the presentation of the Alf Desnoyer Award to a worthy student from the school. The students of the school then take turns entertaining guests and each other, with music and dance. After the merriment in the park an Afternoon Tea is served in the school for Royalty and adults.
This is a wonderful opportunity for the community to get out and visit with friends and neighbours and to observe the result of cooperative energies of Community and School....and in particular the children.
Lavington is one of only a few communities upholding this tradition in British Columbia and has been doing so for over 50 years. Elsewhere on this site are photographs and information on the 50th May Day reunion held in May of 1998.

Watch for this event before the long weekend in May.

It is a 3 day show featuring such events as Junior Handling, Obedience, Conformation, and Agility. Remembrance Day

Every year in Lavington residents gather for the Canada's Remembrance Day ceremony. Local community organizations and public groups are encouraged to place a wreath at the Cenotaph in remembrance of those that have given their lives in previous wars around the world. Lavington residents are also given an opportunity to place their poppies on the Cenotaph in a gesture of gratitude for those who have fought for our freedom.

Watch for this event on November 11th commencing at about 10:45am.
Meet at the Cenotaph in Lavington Park.

Halloween

Halloween has become a tradition where the children go from door to door around the community collecting gifts, mostly of sweets, from their neighbours and friends. The children wear costumes and disguises and some residents decorate their homes and properties usually in a ghostly theme. Pumpkin carving is a big part of the event and the pumpkins are displayed at most homes with a candle placed inside to illuminate a carved face. After the 'trick-or-treating' or 'halloween-handouts' comes to an end at about 8 pm, a large bonfire and a display of fireworks is presented by own local Firemen for all to enjoy.

Watch for this event on October 31st commencing after dinner.
Meet later at the Firehall for the fireworks display.

Community Carolling

Since 1998 on one evening in the week before Christmas some children and adults of Lavington join in song for a couple of hours. They wander house to house around the community ringing bells and singing Christmas Carols. Afterwards the group gathers at the School for hot chocolate and cookies. All residents in Lavington are encouraged to join in or watch for the carolers as they stop and sing in front of their neighbours homes.

Watch for this annual event in the week before Christmas.
Meet at the Lavington Community School.
