Lavington is nestled into the east end of the Coldstream Valley halfway between Vernon and Lumby. The community is uniquely situated upon the watershed of the valley. To the east the water flows down through the Shuswap Lakes into the Fraser River while the creeks and streams west of the community, meander gently through the Okanagan Lakes until they empty into the no-longer-mighty Columbia River.
Lavington consists of several residential areas with spacious rural-sized lots surrounded by small acreages. Within the area are numerous industries including a glass factory, sawmill, and turf farm. It also has a progressive community educational facility which combines School & Community Centre under one roof.
The residents of Lavington represent all age groups focusing strongly on family values and community involvement. The majority are employed in Vernon with some working locally or in Lumby. Because of the commitment of various groups and individuals, Lavingtons individuality is assured.
